Kindred Crescent

Kindred Crescent, Katya Robert’s current musical collaboration, is an Irish traditional music duo featuring the father-daughter pairing of Andrew and Katya Roberts. Based in the Twin Cities, they perform Irish traditional music on Irish flute, tin whistle, and the uilleann pipes, accompanied by bouzouki, guitar, and mandolin, occasionally adding bass or other instruments to the lineup.

Kindred Crescents musical style is primarily defined by Katya’s rigorous, competition-level mastery of traditional Irish music, and is characterized by the interplay between Katyas virtuosic, expressive melody playing and Andrew’s driving rhythmic backing. 

Kindred Crescent’s repertoire centers on traditional jigs, reels, and hornpipes, reflecting both the precision and warmth of an intergenerational musical partnership. Their musical style is rooted in a highly technical yet soulful interpretation of traditional Irish music. Described as both intimate and energetic, their repertoire is a mix of "old-style" traditional tunes and modern compositions within the folk idiom, often performed in medleys that build in tempo and intensity.
